Interaction - Bachelor
Side B is an interactive installation that invites people to slow down and truly listen. It combines vinyl and interactive visuals to create a multi-sensory experience. In a fast, streaming-driven world, Side B reconnects music with emotion, ritual, and presence.

Early in the process, I explored how visuals could respond to sound. Using p5.js, I experimented with live audio input and motion tracking to create reactive, ambient visuals.
I built physical puppets and visual simulations to better understand motion and rhythm before translating them into code.
The final setup uses a turntable connected to an audio interface that feeds live sound into p5.js.
A webcam captures the listener’s hand movement, allowing subtle interactive responses.
The visuals are projected onto the wall in real-time, creating an atmosphere that shifts with the music without distracting from the physical ritual of vinyl playback.
Early prototypes in p5.js explored how visuals could respond to sound, but performance issues led me to switch to Processing for smoother, more expressive motion.
Through user testing, I realised the interaction needed to be clearer. While people were drawn in by the visuals they weren’t always sure how to engage. This helped me refine the experience to be more intuitive while still keeping the focus on slowing down and listening.
