Interaction - Bachelor
Through Another Lens is an educational experience designed to lessen the learning curve of film photography. When learning becomes text heavy and complex the subject can be daunting and inaccessible to a wide range of people. Emphasising the creative play that comes with learning a new and complex skill, Through Another Lens explores visualising complex systems through kinaesthetic learning.

The interactive user interface explores different individual exposure mechanics. Moving the slider using the physical camera controller will change the exposure of the Image on screen, providing the user with direct kinaesthetic feedback.
When learning creative skills there are no ‘right’ and ‘wrongs’. Sometimes when learning complex systems it can be easy to feel the need to be correct. Through Another Lens emphasised the need for creative play in learning. Photography has 3 key exposure mechanics, easily allowing the user to create effects like motion blurs and grain by compensating one for another. A creative play setting allows the user to explore how each mechanic interacts with each other and the image they produce.
Mikayla Howard is an interaction designer who is passionate about art, accessibility and kinaesthetic learning. Exploring visual and graphic design through the lens of user interaction they hope to encourage continuous learning and creative play.
